Okay motherfuckers, let's talk art direction.

There are two things I love about genwun, and I think they're rather related.
1: The sprite art
2: The music

Now look, I get it. These guys look fucked up. But that's what I enjoy about them, you know? They're weird and jagged and look like monsters. I feel like I remember some interview where they talked about how initially the pokemon were designed to look dangerous, which influenced the music in the games being a little more unnerving where pokemon could attack you. Places like Viridian Forest or Cinnabar Mansion being big examples here. Then the anime placed a great deal of focus on the friemdship between people and pokemon, and that influenced the look moving forward. It really shows. I just miss it guys. The art since gen 6 has been all about smooth, non-threatening roundness and that one rounded upper tooth all the trainers seem to have. Even torn up pockets are smoothed out and round. I'd really love to see how fucked up something like Banette or Drapion would look if the genwun art direction had carried over.
