>>40157676The biggest problem is the frame rate. It is absolutely awful and they have put out an update that makes it better in some parts and worse in others and have yet to do anything about. Also, Yokai have been cut, only 100 are available in this game with more supposed to be coming with updates but who the hell knows when that will be because Level-5 sure don’t. Multiplayer was cut and is now locked behind paid DLC. They haven’t released a single content update since the true final boss, because they are rereleasing it for the PS4 and released a Switch port of the original Yōkai Watch to go with the Switch Lite. In regards to gameplay, the battle format has completely changed, and more similar to a JRPG like Xenoblade where you control the player, the Yokai, and use commands while free roaming in the battlefield. The problem is that it’s very clunky and with too many particle effects and characters on the screen, the game starts shitting itself. They also really cut corners on the overworked, where prerelease they made it seem like the towns were going to be super open and interactable when in reality it’s far from the case and everything is very barren. They brought back the lottery system to get more Yokai which is also a pain in the ass because it’s too expensive and a good amount of Yokai are locked behind the lottery and aren’t obtainable otherwise. And the story, while really good, is dragged down by the pacing because they try to fit in all the protagonists and give you time to explore each world, which makes everything drag on and the cutscenes are rendered really badly. The worst offense is the Quests, which there are plenty of but they are filled with fetch quest tasks or retrieving items that the game has never introduced to you until now. It’s all just a huge hassle.
If you were ever thinking of getting a jrpg and Pokémon isn’t available, go with Dragon Quest.
