Generally fighting types have martial arts or fighting styles that make up part of their design. Just because it punches shit doesn’t make it a fighting type. It’s really not that hard

You know nothing. It's all just arbitrary, like Heracross being Fighting but Pinsir not, even though they're based off of the same thing (beetle fights) and are focused on fighting type moves and hurling their foes.

and you could put some others there like scrafty
who just fight everything around them
zeraora being a fighting electric type isn't out of place

Fighting type belong to Pokemon which fight in typical to human styles or exercise to train their body.

Zeraora has human body shape and by its typical move uses fists - technique exclusive to humans. Close Combat and Bulk Up are moves typical to fighting type, the first one being technique based and second strengthening the body. That's already sufficient reason to give Zeraora the type. If you oppose, burden of prove you lays on you.

Zangoose, Mudsdale and Staraptor, And none of them are fighting type, but you’d probably be dumb enough to think so. It’s not even stated to be punching shit, it’s said to use its claws. There’s no reason it should be a fighting type.

Admittedly it is confusing. You could say it uses a dancing fighting style since it looks like a ballerina but that’s stretching a bit. It’s only temporary and is activated by using a specific move so it’s not really a big deal
