Because it would take 6 years (likely more, since Gamefreak would first have to learn how to make a good looking console game before even attempting a project of that scale) to make a game that looks like that and nobody wants to wait so long for a new game that will play the same anyway even if it looks prettier

Also the Square Enix/Armor Project team has far more experience with 3D graphics then the GameFreak team. It also seems that Dragon Quest has lot more generational cultural appeal in Japan. If you mess up that franchise, the Japanese would be livid.

There's no reason other than them wanting to do the least amount with the game as possible. DQ XI lets your party follow you (new pokemon can't even let one pokemon follow you), lets you see monsters out in the wild, and lets you ride monsters. Gamefreak couldn't even be bothered to do those small things.

Not that anon, but if it was still 2013 I would give you the benefit of the doubt. Every game since has been lackluster in terms of content and graphics. We haven't had a single game since 2013 that matches up to BW2, Platinum, Emerald or HGSS levels of content. Given GF's recent track record I highly doubt Gen 8 will be any better.
Besides, this franchise is much more successful than DQ. There's no reason why this series shouldn't have good graphics and content.

It doesn’t need to. There’s nothing bad about the graphics in this game besides the textures. The models have been high poly since XY and you have your millions of useless trees and rocks dumped all over the routes to make the world look real. Only problem is the textures which they have been fixing.

He's not being an apologist he's being a realist. Dragon Quest XI took about 7 years of dev time because it had the luxury to take that long. Pokemon does not have that luxury because it's a massmedia franchise first, a game franchise second. Nor does it need it because the games sell well regardless of their issues. LGPE sold 10 million copies in two months. It took BOTW two years to reach that number and DQXI hasn't even broken 10 million yet. Pokemon doesn't need to change to make money. That's the reality of the situation. You can have a problem with it but you still have to accept it.

They're still very new to the Switch's hardware and developing HD console games so it will still take quite some time to reach that level of graphics. They've shown they're doing quite well with the cityscapes in Sword and Shield, they just need more improvement in the landscapes.

Who plays on a tiny screen with poor resolution when they can play on a bigger screen and also have a better looking game? Handheld mode is only for when you absolutely can't dock the Switch but really want to play.

It didn't stop people from comparing Pokemon to other games when everyone agreed Pokemon was on the top, the only "too different" games should be hyper realistic ones, similar games or games in the same genre is fine, it's why people compare Monster Hunter to Dauntless.

Not at all. It's never been a standard for pokemon to have good graphics and if you wanted amazing visuals, you would've switched to playstation a long time ago. I dont see how you can claim to care about visuals while playing gens 2, 3 and 5,6 or 7.

Not the case at all.

You're comparing a game with 500+ monsters to something that probably has 100+ when you don't include recolors. The closest would be digimon.

Except it has clear improvements from gen 7 that you're clearly ignoring by saying "mmm not good enough" because you decided you want to compare the games to Breath of the Wild all of a sudden. The 20 dollars increase (despite being nothing) should still be counted for the content. Not how much you like the grass textures.

Because it won't print more money, and, in fact, will instead cause them to lose money by spending time and resources on putting actual effort into the game when there's literally millions of drones who will buy it on the sole merit of it being Pokemon.

The only difference is they're allowed to have time to adapt, whereas Pokemon is a gigafranchise that can't remain stable unless there's an annual core release to base the merchandise and anime off of.
All the while none of the companies that are also involved in the franchise's development want to give you resources to ease the development process or the funding to educate both existing and new staff, including your "subordinate that's actually your superior" that's hogging a vast majority of the money and doing literally nothing with it, TPC.

In the interview were they spoke about Town recently they flat out told us that now Gamefreak has a R&D division entirely focused on engineering graphical engines and other tools for the teams that actualy work on games. It sounds like they're trying to adapt.
