This really does feel like a "last adventure" of sorts, but there's no way they'd retire Ash. So where can the anime even go from there? Complete reboot with but now following the not-Champion movie Ash?

He might keep travelling in Galar while we see old companions travel in other regions to train, then possibly go to Galar to assist Ash in the Galar regional tournament.

As of yet we don't know what the anime has in store for the tournament. Ash may need to have a team, like a football club.

He may call upon:
>Misty
>Brock
>May
>Max
>Dawn
>Iris
>Cilan
>Clemont w/Bonnie
>Serina
>Kiawai may return
>Gladion may return
>Garry may get involved to help out and push Ashy-boy to his potential when pissed.

That's why all the companions are travelling:
1. To train and get experience so they can be of use and hold their own when needed.

2. To catch more Pokemon (if their team is small)

We don't just get to see Ash train in Galar, but also his tournament team in the various regions as well and that's what we could be watching every so often, but their follow up episode time skipped to push the story forward.

I'd say that's more likely and a good way to celebrate Pokemon as it reached 20 years, having his companions back to help one more time, find out they progressed and Iris finally has an Haxorus, her Dragonite is stronger, she has a team of Dragons now possibly including Hydreigon.

The kiss in Kalos exposed by Bonnie and trouble starts and so on.

Even all of Ash's mons return and help out, why not? If all regions are involved give him all his Pokemon....or are they retired or dead now?
