I think they realized how awkward it looks to have a huge pokemon like onix follow you around in a city with cramped spaces
It seems that we can use the camp feature anywhere, and it automatically creates a space where big mons following you won't look weird
There was also a mention of following mons in the affleck leak. They were very specific of where we won't be able to have our mons follow us
So maybe camp and/or wild area.....
