The region itself is devoid of literally anything interesting outside of the ruins of alph. There’s things like Mt Mortar and Dark cave that could have been interesting but had nothing there and no real point to going there unless you wanted a tyrogue you could easily breed on your own. Johto is just Kanto’s expansion pack.
