That's actually kinda cool. Is there any other bizarrely conditional things like this in any other game? The only one I can thing of that even comes close is the dialogue from the Hoenn water gym if you don't have 7 badges going into it.

Let’s not kid ourselves, RBY is not challenging. We all beat it as little 5 year olds who thought stuff like Charizard was the best Pokémon in the game beside Mewtwo. Hell the hardest part of RBY is rock tunnel and that’s mostly just because flash is so annoying and permanently gimps your moveset so you’d rather just stumble around in the dark.

Also the entire RBY event in question is literally a consolation prize for players who fail at the most basic gameplay function, how is that not meant for casuals?

No, I literally taught myself how to play and beat DMC4 on Devil Hunter in a single long sitting, reached G-Rank on MH4U basically all by myself (always do Urgent Quests alone) and even beaten Megaman Zero and X to a much lesser extent on that side of things, so I'm not shit at video games.

Rock's stupid weight killed me countless times just doing platforming. Eventually, I just ran out of patience seeing how far you get set back after the bosses give you a game over. Wasn't even using them at first because it felt wrong, then just wanted to save time and still couldn't get past the second Wily stage and boss.

I don't know what to tell you, if you can't beat MegaMan 1 with savestates you just flat out suck. There are much, much harder NES games out there (SMB Lost Levels, Contra, and Castlevania 1/3 come to mind, and even they supposedly pale in comparison to shit like Ghosts N Goblins, Ninja Garden, or the shitty NES games).

All things considered, Mega Man is one of the easier series in the "difficult old school games" debate.
