New mons are great but overrated. You could add 200 new mons and still have a worthless shit game. I’d rather have fewer new mons, improve/tweak some old ones, and then focus on other content. Best game in the series imo is HGSS which had no new mons, followed games with relatively few new mons, and focused on adding a lot of side content and was full of character.

honestly I barely care about new mons, I'd rather them keep what they already have (and we already have quite a few, to be frank) and focus on the experience you get with those

Maybe round it off to 1000 for gen 10 for the celebration and call it quits after that or something, whatever, but at this point I'd rather have a better game to play with the mons we already have
