Where are the 18 gyms? How are they housed? I can for sure only count 8 max. This dosent line up with the leaks. Why would they announce the ghost and fighting gyms specifically. It makes no sense to me.

The gyms are interchangeable, so you get your main 8 for the first run, and then the leaders switch for your consecutive runs. So basically rematches but with different gym leaders.

They said the major and minor Leagues will vary depending on the game, and just like real leagues in real life, the lineup changes every year. So what they are saying is that there are 18 Gym Leaders, one for each type, that changes each League cycle, which is specifically said on the official website to be one year. So every time you beat the Champion Cup, the Gym Leaders currently running will change.

The same way they handled the exchanging day and night cycles in the Gen 7 games by including the Alternate World. The version exclusives are only for the main game and then postgame they’ll be made available.

There is probably only one minor and one major league per game. If you play Sword, foot girl is stuck with a baby team and Allister gets a big boy team. And vice versa. So if you want a challenging Ghost leader you should actually buy Sword, so it’s a bit deceiving.

I really hope I'm wrong about this, and I really hope Sword and Shield ends up being the best fucking Pokemon game we've ever gotten, but the marketing just hasn't won me over at all.

That would equate to each leader having a new team, not to having a new leader altogether
Having a new leader is like if each year cities switched their clubs (like Real Madrid going to Rome, Manchester United going to Barcelona...etc)

It's shaping up to be more tedious than fun. Flying to previous uninteresting towns with nothing to do in them besides re-completing the same gym but with a different leader.

How fucking so? On paper needing to get eight more badges to battle Red seems tedious if all you're focused on is battling Red. Please don't compare gold and silver's post game to this. You had to get 8 badges from an entirely different region which was full of shit to do.
10 different badges but from the same gym, the same towns that you've already visited and done just about everything in, but with different leaders absolutely sounds tedious as fuck. We ate up Heart Gold and Soul Silver's post game because it was actually interesting and unique. No other game had done this since.

Lmao. All the Kanto gym leaders are underleveled as fuck so that they can be challenged in any order. You can clear the Kanto league in two sittings, easy.

But I'll say that it does add some great dungeons.

You're embellishing this quite a bit. Not only was it incredibly short and barely an adventure at all, but it took place in a region everyone already knew like the back of their hand. It was cool because it was more game to play, not because the content itself was so amazing.

Kanto was a glorified boss rush, kiddo. It wasn't until HGSS, ten whole years later that Gen 2 Kanto actually had things to do ouside of humiliating the Kanto leaders.

Ohmori confirmed 18 gyms in his Game Informer interview. There are Major League, and Minor Leagues that differ between the two versions. What exactly that means is up to interpretation but it's very likely at the least it means a type expert for each type. Which is very believable because that was already something he attempted with SM where every type but Ice has a named character associated with it.

We know traditionally that a League consists of 8 Gyms though, so that probably is going to continue through.

I think what they were actually saying was that Bea and Alister's Gyms were both Major League Gyms exclusive to their versions, but the culture of the Galar Region is that between League Seasons, the Gyms themselves change. So the Minor and Major League Gyms are located in the same places. Each version of the game can represent a different time period or parallel universe where that one Gym is different when they switch over.

Ultimately we don't know what this means though. It could mean the Minor League leaders are just NPC in one version for all we know. We also don't know if the 8 gyms convention is going to stick with this game. It's possible the major league could be 8, 10 or even a lesser number like 6. We just don't have the info to really know what it means yet. The only things that are certain are that there are 18, there's a major/minor league format, and that certain Gyms are major in one game while being minor in the other.
