I think what they're trying to say is that the dyna/gigantamax forms are projections of the energy, like a green lantern construct, rather than a man-made hologram.
The energy comes from the area they are in, that's why it can only be done in gyms and raid beam areas. The Pokémon can't contain all the energy so their consciousness projects a hardlight form around them which channels the energy into massive attacks.
