Does anyone know why Tracey has disappeared from Pokemon and his character is not even mentioned a single time? He was one of Ash's best friends in the original series with Brock and Misty and while these two had their special appearances in Sun and Moon, nothing has been said about Tracey. In fact, in the last Pokemon XY episode he wasn't even with Professor Oak and Ash's mom

My personal theory is they want to phase out all old companions Ash had to make it easier to do a fresh start every series without referencing the past. If the anniversary hadnt happened, Im sure Brock and Misty wouldnt be referenced at all like XY

They want Ash's core supporting cast to be Oak and Delia

Because he was a replacement for Brock but it turns out that the audience really liked Brock. So they brought him back and now Tracy has outlived his purpose.

XY was a half-reset like BW but instead of remove the past memories about battles in Ash, this time the season writers removed the past memories about companions in Ash (the only "cameo" is the mention of Dawn's piplup and only last 1 minute), implanting him a "childhood with Serena".

He was literally only brought in because producers at the time thought Brock would be consided racist by fans and that they would eventually lash out at his inclusion in the show.

They brought him back as soon as they discovered the opposite was true and that fans loved Brock.

Yeah but Brock was still with us for multiple series afterwards and whenever they would show us what's going on in Pallet Town, Travey would be there. I don't know why that status quo didn't just continue after DP.

Brock was dropped because they wanted to freshen the lineup but didn't want to drop Misty. As Brock was the least popular he got the axe instead. They then discovered that 'least popular' doesn't mean 'unpopular', and the uproar over his replacement by milquetoast Tracey saw him brought back.

You can see how much panic they had over bringing him back by how ridiculously lazy the reason for his return was.

In an interview with former Pokémon anime director and storyboard artist Masamitsu Hidaka, he stated his own reason why Tracey was created and why he replaced Brock. He (or rather, his translator) revealed that the true reason they replaced Brock is because, once they realized Pokémon was going to go global, there was a chance that Americans, if not anyone else outside of Japan, would view Brock as a racist stereotype because of his eyes (even though there wasn't an actual complaint yet). So they created a "tall, white, Anglo-looking character to replace him, just to be on the safe side". They later replaced him with Brock again once they realized that no one really cared as to what Brock looks like, and actually enjoyed his character. This also may explain why Tracey was never included in The Electric Tale of Pikachu manga.
