no they just said they think players can decide how to play to make the game difficult for themselves. They never said specifically the exp share is a difficulty switch. You're still free to shoot yourself in the foot in any way you wish.

Surprisingly it's not that bad turning it off, I just find it weird they removed the option.
I'm one of those types that battle literally every trainer or do every little thing so it's too easy to over level myself. Just a preference.

We DON'T know if it can be turned off, and we DON'T know if it'll make the game easier depending on whether they balance around having it as an option or not. Him immediately taking a negative brush to the "removal of options" is almost entirely irrational
