Before Gen IV, you didn't even encounter Pokemon from other regions in the wild aside from postgame and the Safari zone, after GTS became a thing, Pokemon being "in the game" is just so they can fill a space in the pc and in the Pokedex.

Yeah anon, I'm bone tired of retards here crying there was nothing to do in XY/SM to want to have to listen again in SS, because you got your dex, but GF only had time to do corridor simulator 2019 and no wild area, because having to prioritise the dex yet again and crunching the rest of the game (One man coded SM's trials, remember. Just listen for a second anon. They've given us a gym for every type this time. That's 10 more than we've ever gotten and they even added a justification for battling all 18. potentially. We may not get a game with that depth of shit to do granted, but if dexit suddenly allowed them to plan time for 18 gyms, what else did it leave them time to work on and add, as opposed to rushing to get even the basics in, like they needed to do with trials.

That’s the problem
GameFreak is so incompetent and its been proven dozens of times be regular anons that you can make the models from scratch with texture work and shaders in just a few hours.
And that is the hardest part of implementing the Pokemon back in.

You don’t seem to realize that GameFreak is incredibly incompetent and lazy. They have a long history of fucking up basic things and being 2 steps back on features.

That Masuda explicitly called out having to sacrifice gameplay elements and features (knowing how long and hard /vp/ bitched about the content of XY and SM respectively) for adding pokémon and that now they'd made the decision his focus this Gen was adding new and previously cut features back into the game, hearing anyone still trying to shill "muh dex" is just saying they're happy with corridor simulator and would rather that than a game where they can't use everything, but have a lot more in-game shit to do because they didn't have to burn so much time on adding pokémon.

You know why most game mods are model swaps anon, rather than building new content to add to the game? It's because creating something to add to in-game and get it working exactly right is pretty fucking hard, unless the devs give you mod tools to do so. Enjoys SM-tier models that try as they might still end up janky as fuck compared to the native ones. Oh and remember to keep telling yourself "it's better" when it patently isn't (just like people still try to imply yuzu will run Sword/Shield at playable levels).

There's no winning for GF. Either you settle for having barely any features in a game/slowly having them removed as more mons are added into the Dex, remove some mons to make the game have content while still being playable or cram an ubsurd amount of resources into having far more mons than is remotely necessary for the game.

They made the obvious choice, but I am still curious to see how much more gameplay they are putting into the games

If the problem was solely GameFreak's incompetence, why did Nintendo AND TPC sign off on the decision? If it's something so easy to fix, why didn't Nintendo step in and say "hey, you can fix it very easily by doing this"?
This new interview has confirmed that it's not something that was brought upon by incompetence, because the more competent people at Nintendo would have been able to fix it easily. However Nintendo, TPC and GameFreak all signed off on Dexit being the best course of action, so the incompetence argument holds no weight, unless you want to say Nintendo is also incompetent.

Fact is doing it now and getting to focus on gameplay to re-vitalise the formula (because they've said the turn-based is fundamental to the gameplay, but that means it's also a very samey experience, just taking battling into consideration) is better, because as they get better they can add bigger 'dexes, to widen the potential pool if they wish. Like I understand updating the textures (they should have made HD textures that were downscaled to match the resolution to begin with like normal people), but once they get them all updated, what's stopping them from just being included in future games? Why can't Vikavolt be in VaginaDiamond and AnusPearl if it's ready in SS? It's not even Game Freak handling most of the model work. There are 3 years between Gens now, why isn't there a team at TPC just focusing exclusively on updating models and sprites to match the new mechanics?

GameFreak collaborates with and outsources to Creatures Inc and-since Sun and Moon- Imagica Digital Scape for the Pokemon. Game Freak designs them and puts together Model Sheets for reference. Okay, let me ask you this: If these Pokémon were cut to put more work into the rest of the game, what did they actually spend it on?
Can't have been graphics, because those don't look that much better than the 3DS games, while some models could be straight out of GameCube games.
Can't have been Dxnamax, because that's just existing Pokémon, but BIG.
Can't have been have been Gigantamax, because that's just a replacement for Mega Evolution and they were able to do that previously without cutting Pokémon.

So what else do we have in the way of new features?
Curry and 18 gyms as so far. Unless they're holding some major, major things under lock still, I don't see that as a justification considering the sheer size of Pokémon.
The people in this thread and GF themselves seem to think Pokémon is just some Kirby tier franchise, when it's really the most popular piece of media in the world. There are games with more content that sell less then a fourth of what SwSh will.

And if time is such a big issue then stop annualising the series.

There's an oddity in these arguments in that the position assumes that what we've seen at any given point is all there is to the games though we're in one of the most reserved promotional cycles to happen before a new title in what is clearly a more ambitious region on new hardware that the company has just barely gotten its footing on. Thanks to Let's Go, this might actually be the first hardware jump where there hasn't been a year skipped between releases which tightens the schedule already. The positive side is that the LGPE games apparently functioned as a useful means of learning the hardware and building a code base/engine and understanding the hardware more broadly. The Minor League gyms likely occupy additional space and the dynamic weather affect visuals as well. An entire team has been dedicated to apparel for character customization which is apparently very expansive.

These aren't just regular Pokemon enlarged. Visually, there's variation in vfx and lighting with modifications of old animations or new animations for the transformation. Balancing for each individual Pokemon in this form also likely took place, which would be far more intensive than just a handful of Megas.

This one just makes me think you're assuming that it's a single given thing that would have taken place of full National Dex as opposed to more general flexibility in resources/limitations/balance considerations where the benefit lies, assuming that it wasn't just something acting as an independent bottle neck that strained their schedule.

While the series doesn't definitively look annualized outside of the LGPE anomaly, it seems that the release schedules are set far in advance now. The reality is that being the most popular media franchise in the world gives the games far less flexibility to work with. They can't simply delay or change course in the middle of the games' development as hundreds of companies are, through the Pokemon Company, dependent on Game Freak, whose titles and source material are on the Critical Path of their own releases. Leaving aside apparel, plushes, stationary, licensing, and other merchandise, more time consuming and expensive endeavors like the TCG, movies, and anime would all face a massive logistical nightmare with any sort of sudden scheduling shift.

We don't know how Game Freak sets up its business, but projects have budgets no matter how much money a successful company has. Game Freak has a base team of employees, but also outsources a great deal of work, all within the blanket of what is likely a singular project budget and a schedule set far in advance. This means that a bloating dex takes more and more time and resources for every given department and company that has a role involved. Freeing up that allocation of budget means that more manpower can reasonably be allocated to other aspects of the game without incurring delay or budgetary strain.
