Ash wins the Kalos League, gets told the Kalos Champion League got postponed because of all the Team Flare bullshit that went down and Malva getting arrested and all that, then gen 7 would've been him hearing about the island Challenge in Alola, traveling there to do that, then traveling back to Sinnoh to try the Sinnoh Battle Frontier, traveling elsewhere to do whatever, meeting old friends, and eventually traveing back to Kalos for the Champion League with his friends coming along to cheer him on.
Then he'd have lost the Champion League, but received a sponsorship from Rose or some shit and we could've got a straigt adaptation of gen 8 with the show playing up that the Galar league is on a much higher level than most other regions.
