If you like Pokémon games for the creature designs, Gen 1 would surely be your favorite.
If you like Pokémon games for the world's level design and exploring the maps, it'd be Gen 3.
If you like Pokémon games for their active story, it'd be Gen 5 or 7, and if you're the opposite and don't want that, it'd be Gen 1 or 2.
If you like Pokémon games for the social elements and/or PvP, surely it would be Gen 6.
If you like Pokémon games for the single player content and post game, then it would be Gen 5 (B2/W2 specifically in this case).
There just isn't anything in Gen 4 that hasn't been done better by another generation. It is simply the most standard, average, middle-of-the-road gen.
