For the past 15 years I’ve bought Nintendo consoles when a pokemon game released (bought Gamecube for Coliseum, DS for DPP, etc). I haven’t bought a Switch yet and doubt I ever will

I only got USUM cause i had spare money at the time, because i wanted to get rid of the thousands of battle points saved up from pokebank for tutor moves since i knew the 3ds was dead by then and because i was under the assumption that it would fix some or most of the problems i had with SM. Skipped LGPE for obvious reasons and will skip vanilla Sword/Shield but i might try to get the 3rd version game new or used down the line if i hear a lot of good things about it and if it doesnt contain the problems i had with the past 2 generations

Seems like the best thread to ask this. So, I jumped off at Y (but still bought and played Omega Ruby), is there any reason to pick up either SM or USUM?

The only reason I'm even considering is that both are cheap as fuck now. Although, I heard they are too story focused so I'm not exactly too keen on playing them.

I personality think the story is the best part aside from the enormous fucking prologue and I really enjoyed the Ultra Beasts. The region is really linear, but feels pretty unique. Also, there's little to no challenge in the games. I guess it would depend on what you play the games for.

USUM are the hardest games in the series (which is still very easy to be fair)
play the other games as an adult, they're not as hard as you remember

depending on the person liking something so much leads to different decisions. in my case i like pokemon so much that if an official title does not meet my specific needs and expectations for the series i won't buy it. others will like the series just as much but devote to buying everything regardless for dedication sake. whichever people do it's all fine in the end.
