There was constant hype for gen 7. We had new videos and reveals bi-weekly. By this time 2 years ago, we had damn near the entire dex officially revealed if not the demo datamined. People loved Alolan forms and there was a ton of speculation on who would get one. Vikavolt and Cutiefly immediately were favorites on the board, Alolan Exeggutor was memefuel, and starter wars were hysterical when no one could agree if they were real. Ballio and Roothoot shitposting was hilarious.
This season has been a slow drip-feed of worse designs, poor decisions, and shitty graphics. Other franchises enjoyed the unironic best games of their series on the Switch while we keep learning how phoned in SS is. Every time something cool happens, it's followed by something terrible. It's just not fun.
