I understand the sentiment, really. Game Freak is relying too much on nostalgia and the cultural significance of Pokémania. But you have to remember, it's not Gen 1's fault that it's the first generation, nor is it so successful due to any particular merit of its own. It could just as well have been the region and monster design of any other generation to come first, and we would be in the exact same situation with it now.

Gen 1 did nothing wrong. Blame the trend hoppers that abandoned the series after Red and Blue, and blame Game Freak for being cheap in relying so much on the cultural pull of Gen 1, but don't blame Gen 1 itself.
