they could have cut it down significantly by having the professor review the "24 hrs" of footage with us, fast forwarding through dead bits, pointing out things like pikachu tails sticking out of bushes or morelul among the mushrooms. Missing the first few sightings of the ponyta and then getting excited at noticing it as it starts to appear in front of the camera for longer and longer
instead of 24 hrs for 2 pokemon, make it a 20 minute review of 24 hrs in the forest
or add just a few extra, put 3-4 pokemon in there popping up over say 8 hrs, still keeps the dead air but makes things a little more exciting as new pokemon show up
