My biggest gripe with the livestream is the fact that of all things they could have revealed, it was a variant and not a brand new species. Not even because it isn't something new, but because we already knew of the original Pokémon's existence it meant there was no real room left for speculation.
We already figured out that it was Ponyta from the second tease, just a few hours in. After that, any subsequent tease pretty much amounted to "Yup, that's Ponyta."
The only thing people really had to discuss was wrapped up before any discussion could really be had.
