>>40277927That will be even more obnoxious because they're making new pokemon specifically around Gigantamaxing.
The pokemon that were given Megas have all existed before Megas. They already had their identity. We've known regular Mawile for years. Mega Mawile was an extra; it wasn't a core part of Mawile's identity. Sure, Mega Mawile will be missed since it was actually viable, but Mawile itself, while not really viable, does not have its core identity removed. And they did that by only giving Megas to old pokemon. Megas appeared in gen6, but no gen6 pokemon has a Mega, except Diancie, but it only got its mega in ORAS. This means that the gen6 pokemon are also not losing their identity by the removal of megas.
Look at Alcremie. Its identity is built around its Gigantamax. We're being introduced to it WITH its Gigantamax form. Its Gigantamax form isn't just a cute little extra. It looks wildly different and has a signature move unique to its design as a Sweet pokemon. When they remove Gigantamax, Alcremie will FOREVER lose its identity. Now it will just be a weird shitmon that can no longer become the cake it's supposed to be.
