what the hell is this marketing? why are they drip-feeding us news? why aren't they trying to reinvigorate everyone's hype or at least rectifying all the bad press these games are getting?

TCPI is a huge glacial machine. All of this marketing was planned out in advanced well before we knew any of it, shit like 'there will be a 24 hour stream where we show off Galarian Ponyta in October' was probably decided last year.

They can't react and adjust to fan reactions because that's now how this company operates. Any and all remaining trailers are already made with specific release dates that were planned long ago.

This also explains why SwSh is so visually limited. They work way in advance, and were hesitant to support the switch near release when they weren't sure how popular it would be (it's cheaper and easier for them to just stick with 3DS so they bet on it). They likely got the majority of the way through development of the Galar games and did a "last minute" port/upscale to switch in the last 12-18 months. They're notoriously bad on hardware they're unfamiliar with (look at DP), and the porting probably ate into the time they originally designated for adding the rest of the pokemon. They might've even wanted to add all 18 gyms at one point. This is SM upscaled in an emulator for a graphical comparison.

I'd say the games look pretty fresh. I like how open and modern it looks, I think it's going to be fun to explore.

Less content? I dunno. I don't care about the dex for multiple reasons, but otherwise this game looks bigger than any other Pokemon game, simply because it's not as claustrophobic. If they managed to fill all that space with content and endgame, SWSH could end up being a pretty sizable experience.
I don't see a reason to complain about graphics, they look fine. Nothing mindblowing, it's the same level of quality as DQ11 on the Switch.

I dunno man, I'm still pretty hyped for the games.

Gen 7 hype season fucking killed me because of every little thing being spoiled beforehand, I'm looking forward to going into these games mostly blind.

For me, a lot of the things that hyped me up are the little things: the pokemon camp, the customizable trainer cards, the evil team that's such an off-the-wall goofy idea, the return of cross-gen evolutions...

I don't even care much about the dex cut and, objectively speaking, the graphics look good. I was never expecting anything groundbreaking.

Most people have shown they have no idea how game development works, from arguing over what constitutes a model to claiming it's as hard to recolor textures as it is to create an entirely separate model from scratch and claiming removing pokemon will do anything but change which pokemon are the top 20 or whatever. When you look at the way the dex cut was announced, it's clear Masuda was beating around the bush trying to soften the blow, giving reasons however weak they may have been before getting to the point. Clearly they knew it wasn't going to be a popular decision, and they doubled down because they really CAN'T fix it in patches because they've already got everyone knee deep in the next games except for probably a small team for bug fixes, and they have to keep the money machine shambling forward on schedule so they're unwilling to reallocate resources or admit mistakes.

Ehh, I’m pretty doubtful on this. SWSH look like shit but the one thing they have over the 3DS games is a genuine sense of scale. I think it’s more just that Gamefreak is incompetent as fuck and had to get used to Switch hardware.
