What are the most recognizable Pokemon to non-fans?

No.40279620 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
What, in your opinion, are the most recognizable Pokemon - and I mean to normies and non-Pokemon fans.

Obviously, literally everyone on the planet knows who Pikachu is, what what other monsters could your mom name?
Of course there's quite a lot of Pokemon that laypeople will recognize by sight, but couldn't name. I am more interested in ones that they can name.
I'll give a couple and my reasons. Of course, most are going to be Gen I, but Pokemania was so huge at that time, and there's millions of kids then who are adults now who know what an Oddish is but couldn't tell an Arceus from a Deoxys.
>Mewtwo
He was in Smash Melee, which EVERYONE played. Mewtwo was also a huge deal during gen I - the level 70 Mewtwo was the mainstay of everyone's squad. Also, Psychics were king, and Mewtwo was the best Psychic.
>Togepi
Togepi was the first Gen II pokemon introduced and got a lot of screentime in the anime, being Misty's pet.
>Mudkip
For some reason, Mudkip has become a bit of a meme. Mudkip is quite well known now.
>Charizard
Was on the box of Red version, is a starter, has a bit of a mythos built around it now (mainstay of Lance's team), and in the TGC was THE card everyone wanted; 100 damage, shiny, 120 HP !!! Plus, PKMN trainer in modern Smash games uses one.
>Snorlax
It's quite iconic, and features on most Poke-merch that isn't Pikachu. I dont know how far people could NAME Snorlax, but it'd be more so than most, I would think.
>Eevee
Now that it's had a game named after it (Let's Go Eevee), I think eevee is one that many people could name.
>Mew
See reasons for Mewtwo above. If people can name Mewtwo, they can name Mew. Plus the huge hype and mythos Mew had surrounding it in Gen I, which was the biggest gen.
>Pichu
Due to being in Melee, and links to Pikachu. I think Raichu might be well known as well.

Any thoughts on this issue? I think it's interesting.
