I feel like everything Masuda touched post FRLG was significantly flawed. DP were fixed thanks to Platinum, BW were good games but had too many designs that felt as though they were already done better in the past (Bert and Ernie, Ice Cream boys, Garbodor line
I actually kinda like that line truth be told but Muk is objectively better and the Alolan Form trumps both) XY were mediocre at best.
Ohmori seems to be someone Masuda was setting up to succeed him, but Ohmori seems to be influenced by a lot of Masuda's ideals and doesn't really do anything all that ambitious with his games. Granted he only has ORAS, SM (and now SS) under his belt, but those games are really unambitious and feel like they're just following on the standard XY set for the series, which isn't a very good one I feel.
That being the case, I feel Masuda isn't just responsible for his own direct failures, but his inability to pass the torch to a director that would do good for the series would also be his responsibility. All he's done is given us another director who maintains the status quo, a Masuda 2.0.
