ATB doesn't make any sense in a game primarily focused around using your 4 moves in a 1v1 fight. It works when you're juggling multiple characters and everything isn't one-shotted.

I've been a Final Fantasy fan for over twenty years and I think the ATB system is terrible. I don't know why the hell more games in the series don't use the system established in FFX and went right back to forcing half-assed real time combat where it doesn't work.

Action can be good, turn based is great but trying to mix the two is super cancer.

Any good game like FFV with ATB is good in spite of the gauge.
