I fully do not expect to not be mocked for this but I need your help American anons.

I don’t buy a ton of games and rarely on release. Haven’t had a switch for very long either. I want SWSH as soon as I can on release. Can I purchase it now on the switch Eshop so it’s pre-downloaded on the 15th?

Or if I preorder it at GameStop will I be able to pick it up at a midnight release? I assume if I use Amazon preorder it will show up Friday morning but I want it before that because I’m impatient as fuck.

How are you all preordering the games?

For smash i think i pre purchased it on e shop then it wouldn’t let me play it until midnight. Hopefully its the same with sword/shield cause i want to play it as soon as i can too lol

The eShop preload hasn't gone live yet.
If you create a Japanese account and buy it with the Japanese account you can have it at 11am Eastern on the 14th when Japan switches over to the 15th (just select English when launching the game.) The Japan eShop also gives access to a number of anime games that have 0 chance of someone localizing it. I think New Zealand or somewhere in the pacific might have a slightly earlier release than that but it's usually just an extension of the European divisions.

Gamestop might have a midnight release but it will depend heavily on the store.

If you have a 24 hour Walmart or similar store with an electronics department you can usually get an employee to sell you the game at midnight.

If you're lucky enough to still have Best Buy GCU, you can order each copy individually and get a $10 gift card back in store credit. You'll miss out on some crystals in the dual pack but it's a fair trade off I think.

If you haven't had your Switch for very long buy Zelda Breath of the Wild or Mario odyssey instead.

But if you're deadset on getting pokemon the pre-download is the absolute fastest way to play the game as soon as it launches.

-Amazon orders may not arrive until the following day. There have been cases of Amazon shipping pre-orders early and people receiving their games the day before, but there is no guarantee of that happening.

-If you go for the midnight release at Gamestop, you have to wait in line and deal with traffic. It will be late at night so there may not be that much traffic, but still, most people live 10-20minutes from their nearest gamestop.

-If you pre-download it, that means at the stroke of midnight the game is unlocked on your switch and you'll be playing the game at 12:01. HOWEVER it depends on how much available memory you have on your Switch and if you want pokemon to eat up all that space.

so, its really up to you. I've done all three at some point in my game purchasing career. I'm sure i'll get the game sometime down the road, but not at launch.

The game is gonna be up for preload in eshop between a month to two weeks before release.

If you are really impatient go for the digital copy.
