Pic related is a ~100 hour JRPG that I was able to enjoy because, despite its length, the game had consistently decent pacing, dialogue typically interesting or relevant enough to pay attention to, and more importantly the characters and story weren't complete shit. On the PS1 nonetheless.
Gen 7 on the other hand were games where they constantly bombard you with dialogue, no matter how irrelevant or unimportant it is. The game is almost devoid of any proper level or area design whatsoever to fill in the spaces. The story throws away interesting concepts like UBs to focus on the girl you're forced to babysit to solve her family issues. So no, it's not just "JRPG dialogue", it's just that the game has shit story and characters, no interesting dialogue and a terrible region to top it all off, and you fuckers, pretending to be JRPG fans, eat it up simply because it's Pokemon.

So far, no. Nessa and Bea are the only one coming back quite often. Waifu-wise, I don't feel that they are as appreciated as Olivia or Lusamine were.
Even the professor has been forgotten right after her reveal, unlike Kukui.

I can't disagree with that but we still didn't see a single town entirely.

Impidimp (Typing) and Rolycoly (Ability) are the only one with some novelty and potential.
The rest are DoA (Morpeko) or have already been done enough (Drednaw, Cleric fairy Alcremie, mono-fighting Sirfetch'd).
SM gave every mon, besides Lurantis, a unique trait, (Ability, move or typing), that's interesting.

Also, musics in SS are pretty bad so far.
