Gigantamax gives them the awesome looking forms. Dynamax is a thoughtful balance between Megas and Z-Moves that allows more strategy and can't be spammed as a win button in-game everywhere since it only works in locations large enough to support the size growth.

Z-Move is a 1 turn nuke. Mega Evolution was fucking there until you could stop it. Dynamax is 3 turns, a clear balance between the two extremes.

Yeah, but the very fact that they're 400 feet tall is what makes it so stupid. Think about the way Pikachu can cover ground. Now imagine scalling that up to Godzilla sized. A Pikachu could end mankind, how the fuck would a human-built stadium be big enough for that kind of battle? Megas were a great idea whether you liked the designs or not. Getting inexplicably/ridiculously huge for some reason isn't nearly as cool as basically having a "Super Saiyan" upgrade on your mon, without having to make it be able to wipe out a seaboard. Like, why "just get huge"? Like, they could have achieved the same effect by making all mon glow red or something, I would have preferred that than just growing HUUUEG.
And I know the retarded shit they said, "Pokémon are on the big screen, so we wanted them to be as big as possible!!!" That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. You're not making the Pokémon bigger, the biggest they can be is taking up the whole screen? The only thing you did was make the HUUUUEGG Pokémon the exact same size as they would be on screen if they weren't 500 feet tall but make the opposing Pokémon who aren't bigmaxed tiny little indistinguishable pixels. Also worth mentioning you have to earn your Gigantamax Pokemon. They are basically rare raid rewards. This would be annoying to find the perfect one that can Gigantamax, but they've hinted this game will let you change a Pokemon's Nature somehow. We previously had a way to max IVs for the sake of battle. We previously had a way to change between a Pokemon's 2 normal abilities. So everything is accounted for.

Dynamax is not the reason Megas got removed, they removed Megas and Z-Moves because they wanted to try and centralize and balance the battle system around one system that roughly combines Mega and Z-moves into one. Megas would've been removed no matter what the name and visual representation of the Dynamax system was.

Smash Wii U had less features than Brawl had. Smash Ultimate had to drop all trophies and replaced them with Google Image Search. Spirit Board is neat but it exists only due to the cut of multiple modes and features from the Wii U game, that were cut to try and do something different with that dev time.

Smash doesn't drop characters either, and when they did it pissed people off so in the newest installment, they included all the characters. Pokémon on the other hand was like UNDERSTAND AND BUY AND FUCK YOU and chopped off over half the roster and gave us some brony shit and turning big in return, not to mention all the other shit they cut like the region itself, lost to pre gen VII games replaced by never ending jibberish textboxes

The only "actual progression" is number of characters and Sakurai finally letting the game be slightly less slow. Online features are objectively inferior to the Wii U's version, and most time spent playing the game is spent playing it online.

Dynamax is a blend between what mega evolution and z-moves did, but it does nothing to alleviate just using it on your strongest Pokemon. In addition, several Pokemon who had good megas are back to being awful.

-The new Online Y-Comm infrastruture is a true upgrade of the PSS in every way.
-The Wild Area seems to combine the Festival Plaza's social features into it's overall package.
-Clothing customization improved majorly, alot more layers of clothes to utilize

Following Mons returned in Let's Go, Megas stuck around for four more games, Battle Frontier stuck for multiple games as well. We never know when old features will come back.

It isn't a straight line. There's an optional beach and an optional path that leads you to blush mountain. When you get to the middle of the route there's a fork in the road where you can either go down the path that requires mudsdale or the little maze section that doesn't require mudsdale

No, routes being small hallways leading to a flag is the problem. If you could skip the SM cutscenes and the Alola region was at worst, like Kalos-tier then I would have thought SM was acceptable. But that combo of zero exploration and having to use waypoints padded down with cutscenes make it unplayable

I think it's a boring concept, however balanced it might be competitively. It takes both the "transformation" and "super attack" premises, and completely dilutes them. Z-Moves had several applications and secondary effects based on which attack was being powered-up. Mega Evolutions have entirely unique stat distributions, abilities and typings for the Pokemon who got them, not to mention new designs. Dynamax just sort of homogenizes everything. Everyone gets big for 3 turns, all attacks will become Max Flare, Max Strike, etc based on type, and you will see the same secondary effects across the board all the time. It's heavily simplified. Maybe that'll be good for an ever-inflating meta, I dunno. But it does take away what made the previous mechanics fun.

Gigantamax looks redundant, and almost undercuts what Dynamaxing appeared to be. It's like they wanted to re-implement Megas again, with certain Pokemon getting their own special power-ups.
