Isn’t this a bad feature for competitive battling?

Like it could be any of the pokemon on their team, how are you supposed to just know when they’re gonna bring out the big bad?

No. It's actually the only button press gimmick they've made so far that's even remotely interesting because it actually adds something to the game instead of just being more new Pokemon but with retarded stats and abilities and more elemental gems but with retarded BP.

Well yeah, but you can do the exact same thing with any of your Pokemon at any time. That's what makes it interesting. If you Dynamax before your opponent you could potentially have the advantage of being able to KO one of their threats. If you Dynamax after your opponent you could potentially have an advantage of being able to block one of their own Max Moves with Max Guard and overwrite their weather/terrain.

The whole point in single battles is to switch into something that covers the active Pokémon’s resistances, but I fear with dynamax even nfe moves will be enough to 2hko on switch in, ruining it

Gigantamaxing isn't inherently OP. The only difference seems to be different Max moves, and all the Max Moves have equally OP effects so it doesn't really matter. In a lot of situations Drednaw's Gigantamax move is straight up worse than the regular one.

But you can. They explicitly showed it being used in doubles for the VGC trailer. Max moves that raise stats even raise stats for BOTH your Pokemon out if you're playing doubles.

You don't need specific held item to dynamax, but it look like you can dynamax only one pokemon for a three turns in one battle. And you can't dynamax at the first turn into battle rather, you have to battle a bit more before you can dynamax.
