More modern: Zoroark GX was the most fun deck, very customizable to counter threats. The new MewMew deck seems cool, but I don't have it.
Other notable decks I liked: Greninja Break for bench sniping, same for Decidueye, also Yveltal EX with Dark toolbox stuff
Generally I like toolbox type decks which is why Dark decks are usually the most fun, and the only time I feel like there's skill in this game. Ungabunga decks like Reshizard, Mega Rayquaza, etc., are boring to build or play.
But desu, I find even Yugioh to be a better card game. Pokemon doesn't feel like there's any interaction, just optimal damage ramping and switching. Sure, those choices matter, but I never feel like it comes from outplaying an opponent, just drawing a hand a trying to make the most of it. Nothing being at instant speed pretty much makes it so that a player's just doing their own moves and trying to make the best of their hand/draws, but that just means that there's more luck to the game than anything at the top level.
Putting it another way, there's strategy but not really tactics. How you build your deck with the right techs is important (especially because of no siding), but with games like Magic or Yugioh there are different ways to combo or bait stuff, whereas with Pokemon it's mainly just search/draw spam to get your combo or the out to whatever counter you get paired up against.
