It will probably have a similar structure to SM: plot arcs with the party traveling to other regions, while filler episodes happen at the home base.

Pretty much. It'll be Pokemon SM 2.0.

I doubt they'll do the whole sports theme. And Galar is gonna be an afterthought.

It's not that big of a change. Just that the group is going back to the base, instead of LOTR-style traveling across one region.
Anyway, what are your hopes for the contents of Ash's backpack? It was specified as plot-relevant in the advertisements.

I don't follow the anime much, but this is what I see happening. I might follow it, if it seems like more of a reset, and it's not solely focused on Ash.

The final episode of the current season is summed up as "The Pokemon League is over, and the Pokemon Trainer School is going on a break. Everybody discusses their plans for summer, while Satoshi makes a decision".
So it has to be something related to either the school or the outcome of his exhibition battle vs Kukui. Maybe Kukui sends him to Sakuragi Labs as an intern of sorts.

"Games delayed because of anime" was a silly idea from the start. It's the anime that always had to fit its schedule to the games, including being forced to scrap the Team Plasma plot completely after the earthquake, because TPC said "Oh, the new games are on the way, you might as well not air Team Plasma at all, and adapt Neo Plasma right away". This has turned BW series from the fastest-paced season into a poorly-animated generic forest filler bloat.

At least the generic forest has the possibility of not getting old, since while it is generic, it's not precisely defined. There is the possibility that things may be different to an extent.
If you use the same place every time, then since the location is precisely defined, there is no possibility for change.
And since some > none, it's not as good.
