Additional cost doesn't matter. It doesn't change that the same people who were planning on playing it will still be playing it anyways. If you care about online, you'll pay up. If you don't care, you wouldn't have played regardless, so the additional cost doesn't affect you.

How could you ever even enjoy online pokemon ""competitive"" play when battle sims exist? Serious question, I don't get the appeal for taking 30 minutes to complete a 10-turn game and feeling barely any sense of progression compared to a proper ladder system like showdown has. Nintendo's official battle spot has always been shit for people who are interested in legitimate competition, Gen 8 will be no different.

Frankly the online features is what made me decide to even buy the game. Shit looks good, lack of Poke-bank/Home for a awhile gives me hope for another early-XY situation. MAX Raids look neat too, I've wanted god-mode battles against bullshit bosses for a while, them being online co-op is even nicer.

The primary goal of a company is to make money. It's 100% justifiable because it makes Nintendo money. It's a service. Is it fair? No Is it justifiable? Perfectly. Nintendo offers a paid service. You pay for it, or you don't. There's also a huge different between shilling corporations and understanding that they don't owe you anything. Nintendo having a fee for mediocre P2P is unfair but it's a service people are willing to pay and that's all that really matters.
