Made it to the E4, shiny Azurill evolved into Azumarill and was brought to the league. I was down half of my Pokemon before fighting Iris. By the gods I was able to finish her Archeops off with just my Sunflora left.

I resigned myself to not thinking I was gonna win this one. Tightest I've ever ran. I'm going to be nice during every Sunflora thread from here on out.

Might add it to the team in place of Exploud or Pelipper. We'll see if Kyogre massacres my team first, but damn those are some good stats.

Confagrigus and Crustle managed to really hold their own up til the E4. At times I felt Azumarill and Sunflora were lacking, but turns out I couldn't have done it without them.

It had no right working. I have absolutely ZERO clue how it managed to tank an itemless Acrobatics from the champ's Archeops. As soon as I read the attack text, I knew my run was over and that I had put up an insanely close fight. Some kinda miracle happened. I was running Giga Drain, Petal Dance, Return, and Leech Seed on it with a Big Root. I forget the nature, but it certainly wasn't +Sp.Attk or +Def.

Also, for AS, how are you nuzlocking that? Are you doing like the Sinking Sapphire romhack? Or are you playing with the exp. share turned off and not using the gift Pokemon? like what are your rules? I am considering running either ORAS or RSE (either hack or vanilla)

Normal Alpha Sapphire, no dupes clause, no exp share (you don't need it in ORAS), otherwise bog standard. And I'm definitely using Sealeo, since I had a really bad team for Tate and Liza and lost Pelipper.

Started a Nova Sun Nuzlocke. I was intending on it being a fighting type locke but that left Croagunk as the only available pokemon for Ilima's team of 6. So I decided to let myself use the catches prior to that. Ledian is a surprisingly sad loss. Setting up Screens carried me in that fight. He uses a Baton Pass strategy on a Furret with Coil and Amnesia that turned scary very quickly. Next route expands my team quite a bit though, with Makuhita, Crabrawler, and Kirlia.

The crusade has arrived at the Nacrene settlement, which judging by the presence of an unsanctioned museum has clearly fallen to excess and must be purged.

In the mean time everyone's "Favorite" member of the Emperor's Children has found his way back into our group, now with his hammer. This makes a full group for the first time in this run.

We realized that the museum was not a monument to Slaanesh but instead to Tzeench with a bunch of forbidden knowledge about stuff like... Poffins. Dunno what they are but they sounded like something Nurgle would like so we purged the city.

The first Thunderbolt paralyzes, and Walrein strikes back with Blizzard. Walrein's Sitrus Berry activates.
A second Thunderbolt takes out Walrein.

Time for Pearl to do some silly stuff!

Pearl uses Amnesia and gets hit by Rock Tomb(Spd down).
Iron Defense follows, as Rock Tomb misses.
Another Amnesia, and Dragon Claw does very little.
A second Iron Defense meets a Rock Tomb miss.
Pearl once again passes the Baton to Judy, who shrugs off Dragon Claw.
Judy uses Agility twice, taking a Rock Tomb(Spd down) and Dragon Claw before passing the baton to Misterjaw, who gets Rock Tombed on entrance(Spd Down), and then...

A Steel Wing Crit does quite a bit of damage, but Skarmory folds to Thunderbolt.

Claydol vs L.S.P. is a mess, but it boils down to AncientPowers and Shadow Balls aplenty, dual screens up, and a ChestoRest to get L.S.P healthy. Reflect fades as Claydol goes down to the final Shadow Ball.
>Metagross
Metagross fires off a Psychic(Sp Def drop), eating Fire Blast(Burn) in return. Light Screen fades.
Another Psychic leaves L.S.P. on 16 hp, but with Light Screen down, Fire Blast can finish Metagross off.
>Aggron
I send in Buttercup, and she takes a Thunder, causing Paralysis. Buttercup then eats an Earthquake as she Sleep Powders Aggron.Foghorn uses the sleep to get in safely.
Strength just barely fails to KO and Earthquake almost kills Foghorn(only 7 HP remaining!) in return as Aggron wakes.
Full Restore happens, but Strength KOs outright now- damage rolls are fun!
>Armaldo
I send in Misterjaw on an Ancient Power(which does way more damage than I thought, but Armaldo is a heavy hitter, I suppose).
Waterfall causes a flinch(saving Misterjaw from death), and Armaldo lives on, way into the red.
The next two turns are just Full Restores and Waterfalls, with the second Waterfall killing(once again, damage rolls are fun!).
>Cradily
Most of my mons are fairly weakened and the ones that arent can't really handle Cradily if they switch in on an attack. So I decide to fire off an Ice Beam, and... it freezes Cradily solid! Another Ice Beam, and the Champion is defeated!

Misterjaw is officially the luckiest shark alive, dodging death against both Armaldo and Cradily.
He had quite a run in this league challenge overall, probably the MVP, though Pearl's Baton Passes and L.S.P's perfomance are good contenders.
Pretty much everyone pulled their weight.

Gonna have to go on an extended hiatus now though. Have some studies to do, and Sapphire is the last game I'm willing to play on emulator, and hence last one I could speed up.
Depending on if I finish early, I could be back in a few months, but I might dip for almost half a year.
...Well, I'll probably take time out of my schedule to play Sword or Shield for the first time, but I'm unsure whether I want to Nuzlocke it or not. I might use specialized rules if I do.

Gutted that I lost Sableye to a trainer using Foresight correctly, if I'd seen the move used enough to remember the effect I'd have switched out.

Norman goes down to some very sketchy Double Team setup sweeping with Megalon, who's able to one-shot Slaking with a built up Fury Cutter.

Same goes for Winona, but it was Jet Jaguar setting up Calm Mind once the bastard Perish Song Swablu went down.

Also did you know that Jynx can't survive a fucking thing and actually is the spawn of a leper-smitten caterpillar? My league challenge weighed on her ability to smite lance, yet she couldn't kill Brunos machamp before he killed her. It was such a big dick move, too. Made me feel awful that i didn't take machamps surprisingly strong sp.def into account but the power dynamic was fucked here. Equal in level, my psychic only took 60% of his hp, yet he 1-shotted me with a cross chop. What the fuck? It wasn't even a crit!

Marshal went without a hitch, BTFO by Zazazazaza
Caitlin was taken care of by Taos, Water Spout x5 did the job
Grimsmey is where we had our first and only casualty, Gooped just barely didn't manage to ko his Krookodile (who was unreasonably defensive) and it retaliated with Earthquake, Gooped having already been softened by a Normal Gem Fake Out and Aerial Ace from his Liepard. Zazazazaza ended up getting revenge for their friend tho
I used Taos for Shauntal, Water Spouted until Chandelure outsped me (the fucker has a Choice Scarf in Challenge Mode) and it used Energy Ball which I thought might be the nail in the coffin, but no Taos survived, killed it with a weakened Water Spout and finished off the rest of her mons with Surf
Iris was a joke, Zazazazaza murdered her entire team by themselves

It depends on the kind of run you're doing, but in the most vanilla of rulesets I'd catch and use up as many areas as I can before deciding which ones to train early on, then carry those as best as I can until I either get something REALLY good/a shiny or something dies and I need to fill a spot.

The thought hit me as well just recently, didn't consider that since Porygon wasn't meant to be acquired in the main story there won't be any Up Grades laying around (and checking it now, the only way to get one before the postgame requires an insance amount of luck and time, so no)
I suppose I could just trade one over from Black 2 since I was going to have to trade anyway, but that remains to be seen

Which leads me to something else, just what the hell did GF base Join Avenue on?
-Manhattan Mall's been dead since the late 2000s which leads me to believe it's not the inspiration
-Saks 5th Avenue, Barney's (best of the bunch considering how Fred's is inside), Bloomingdales, and Bergdorf Goodman are all too far north
-UniQLO's flagship is like 4 blocks away from where I work in SoHo, so that's out.
-The mall near Ground Zero is too new
-5th Avenue between 59th and the NYPL hosts a lot of big-name shops, but a similar "strip" exists on Madison between East 87th (Brooks Brothers) and 59th Streets that visually fits better.

Afterwards I took a risk and sent the Slugga Boys out to Mud-Slap Zebstrika a little bit before switching to Snikch to hopefully dip dodge duck dive and dodge enough to get a Dig out.

Unfortunately I misjudged how much punishment Snikch could take if he was hit and he died to spark before getting a Dig off against Zebstrika but Thorgrim was able to finish him off afterwards.

Been a few days since I last posted since I didn't really have time to play, but I got some progress done today.
And well, some pretty interesting stuff has happened:

Honestly, the whole gym was underwhelming. Jim Rustle and Glenn mostly swept the whole thing, nothing really noteworthy.

Mystery, the Kakuna, evolved into a Koffing, and then into Sandslash!
While Mystery was a Koffing, I honestly expected that i'd have him just sit on my party leeching off exp with the exp share, but I was pleasantly surprised. Mystery ended up sweeping most wild encounters, and even the last rival fight!
I'll be honest, I was a bit worried when I saw Mystery evolve since Koffing was surprisingly consistent, but uhhhh... I'll just let the next post speak for itself.

Oingo was always my prime catcher, as it's Faint Attack(30 BP Electric) did virtually nothing even to low levels. Really low attacking stats, but really high HP and defenses, which was pretty much perfect.
Then, I found a Lapras.

This scared me shitless since I had no idea what had just happened. I assumed that Lapras just had a massive special attack stat. it did.

This was the first Kecleon encounter before Winona's gym, and my first encounter on the route. Cool as fuck, is what I thought at first. But I wasn't expecting this to be the way I caught it.
The fight basically boils down to:

Even though fortunately I didn't lose any pokemon, this was the toughest fight in the game so far. This made me realize that I needed to really improve my coverage options.

So, here we are now. And I have no idea which two pokemon I want to use to replace Oingo and Jim Rustle. I will be using Bon Ice to catch more stuff, but until it learns status moves it's pretty much useless in battle.

I'll let you guys decide to make this more fun. The first reply decides which two of my boxed pokemon I add to my main party. I don't mind if they're both low levels, since I somehow got my hands on two Exp Shares now.

I roll a 6 sided die prior to encountering to determine which survivor type my catch is. If it's anything but a True Survivor, it has to fall into type restraints. Starter is true survivor by default, and I like to count gift mons as well.

Across all 8 generations, I gotta tell you that the hardest fights in Hoenn I've worked through are:
-Steven in RS, since I haven't even gotten close yet in ORAS. (If you got shafted out of good encounters, it's a lot harder, but if you've been blessed with a good Earthquake/Brick Break/Fire Blast user, you'll be fine)
-Wattson in Emerald (the addition of Manectric is kinda bullshit, especially given how it's got high stats and most of your best shit at that point will be making contact to trigger Static)
-Liza/Tate in Emerald (piss easy in RS, the extra mons are actually a major step up in difficulty somehow)
-Professor's kid on Route 110 in ORAS. Holy shit is this a disgusting fight after the Physical/Special split. (Weakass Wingull, Lombre, Slugma got replaced with fucking trapper Wailmer, Skillhax Shroomish, and fucking Flame Charge Combusken)

Piss easy in ORAS, a pain in the ass if you picked Treecko in the originals. Magneton is just hard to damage if you don't have Combusken/Marshtomp, feels like bad design.

Steven in ORAS is mostly the same as before (besides the buff to Sturdy) but Megagross is way rougher than the original, even though it no longer has Earthquake. Basically necessitates a bulky Steel type to tank it. And unlike Diantha's Mega-Gardevoir, it's really not exploitable since it's fast and bulky and there's no mons easy to set up on. Plus, the most likely Fire type to have is Blaziken, which is weak to Psychic. You really want Mega Swampert for this.

I don't think I've ever had a loss to any Route 110 fight, but Marshtomp in ORAS makes up for having no Water moves by having one of the most dangerous early game moves of all: Bide. Wailmer and Shroomish were from the original RS as well. It can be a tense fight.

Treecko is way better in ORAS than it was before. It's still worse than the other two but the gap between it and Blaziken is much smaller since Blaziken tends to be amazing or useless in any given situation and Sceptile actually has moves now. Swampert is still the best and most broken.
