Is the Day/Night System confirmed? I don't think we've ever seen a city in both conditions.

That's not the reason for it, especially since the solution in that case is so easy to notice if you know anything about early GBA games (ie creating visible gray tones on the screen by using saturated blue)

So what? Gbc didnt have a backight either, and I doubt they designed the game for a japan only Gb Light (moreso with it being b/w only)
If anything GF would be encouraged to make parts hard to see so as to make suckers pay for both a GBA and an SP. But lets face it, it was just gf cutting corners as usual
