>>40332220This manga was fascinating and an important piece of pokemon history. Coming out at the very begining of the franchise combined with it's purely comedic approach that didn't take itself seriously, meant it enjoyed a level of freedom no other piece of pokemon media could ever even ask for.
Pokemon talked and had personalities just like humans, they could evolve and de-evolve at will, the Clefairy protagonist knew Transform and was the mascot instead of Pikachu like originally planned, the early chapters (and only the early chapters) infamously had erroneous interpretations of the sprites as well as the pokemon's roles (Digglet's nose was a mouth and the dirt were little legs, Persian had three eyes, a Mewtwo and trade evolutions casually show up in the wild in the first route, etc) among other oddities. This manga knew full well it was weird and in a unique position and went all the way with it. Nowhere else could we see stuff like Agatha being a life-sucking Golbat vampire in disguise, Palkia and Dialga running for prime minister, Mewtwo and Clefairy fusing, to say nothing of all the dirty humor one would expect from fan parody instead of an official product, among many other things.
I hope the whole run makes its way online (there is a aite that has scans up to HgSs). It doesn't need to be translated, the humor is mostly visual. I hope this version of Clefairy lives on too, it has hearned it.
