A month to the release of the game and GF only revealed 21 mons (excluding the regional variants). With the starter evos, we get 27 new Pokemon. At this rate this we'll barely get to 50 new mons.

can the game be saved?

Woolo has at least 1 evo
Corviknight has 2 pre-evos
Yamper has at least 1 evo
Rolycoly has at least 1 evo
Polteageist has 1 pre-evo

So you can bump that to 32 confirmed so far. There's also the berry tree Pokes that Affleck mentioned, so 34.

There's also Eternus or whatever the third legendary is called. That's 38 so far.

DP remakes are a certainty, it and Let's Go 2 will fill out the coming years in some combination, but there won't be an upper to "fix" the issues you imagine.

See, I'm of the opinion, because they're now cutting pokémon to support, they're also cutting enough to allow them to spend more time on adding new pokémon in (regionals/gigantamax and actual new pokémon, so we get like 150-160 of new shit in total, in a dex of about 500-600).

Unless Gen 8 includes almost 200 new Pokémon, it's not going to be anywhere near 1000, at most it gets over 900.

I feel like them saying that the sheer number of Pokémon in existence being a problem for them would make them want to have less new Pokémon with more regional and Gigantamax designs since they don’t take up a slot and can be removed in the future without removing the actual Pokémon. I mean that’s why we thought was the reason for less Pokémon in the 3D era
