>>40348387>TyphlosionToto tends to be better vs Route trainers thanks to better physical attack early, while Cynda does well in Sprout Tower. Toto is the best starter against Falkner and does well in the Cave. The Bug Gym is favored for Cyndaquil.
They are fairly close up to this point.
However, past Azalea?
Both pick up Headbutt in the forest, but Croconaw uses it way better.
Goldenrod- Croconaw gets Ice Punch for a paltry sum. Quilava gets nothing unless you grind 5500 coins for Fire Blast(and in that case, Croconaw can grab Blizzard).
Croconaw is actually good against Whitney, while Quilava isn't.
Once you hit Ecruteak, Surf is now in the picture, while Quilava is stuck with Ember.
Croconaw has a good matchup in the gym, Quilava doesn't.
At level 30, you get Feraligatr, and at level 31, Quilava gets... Flame Wheel. Then once it evolves it gets Fire Punch, which is still not quite on par with Feraligatr's surf despite the SpAtk advantage.
Feraligatr has good matchups against Chuck, Jasmine, Pryce and Clair, while Quilava is losing to Chuck and does badly against Clair.
Typh has no relevant benefits over Feraligatr for the entirety of your Johto travels. The league I'm not sure about.
But Bugsy and the sprout tower, the only small things the Typhlosion family has on Gatr? That's done better by an early Spearow or even a temporary filler Pidgey.
>EspeonNo. Happiness grind is not quick, and Kadabra is stupidly fast to get to.
Kadabra also has:
-Psybeam at level 21. Espeon gets it at 36.
-Psychic at level 38. This is actually earlier than Espeon gets Psybeam, because Medium Slow is actually faster than Medium Fast for a long time.
-Ice Punch and ThunderPunch.
Espeon is clunky and slow to get compared to Kadabra who performs fantastically and hits the ground running. This isn't a close race, Kadabra is just outright better for a long, long time. Espeon only surpasses Kadabra in performance once it hits Level 47(same level as Karen's Ace).
