it should depend on your taste since they're pretty much different genres.

But unironically, pokemon will last more playtime, if you must absolutely choose only one.

Same happened to me when trying to get something else instead of smash brothers, but other games without online longetivity just end up dusting in the shelf.

That's just my experience tho.

Do you like platinum games? If yes, check some videos of astral chain and see if it's for you. Pokemon doesn't look so promising but I can't be sure since it isn't out yet, but if you want to spend a lot of time battling online it might be better for you overall.

I'd say Astral Chain since it's out already and we know almost nothing about Shield.

World of Final Fantasy Maxima is on sale atm, and is a great pokemon-like rpg.
Might be worth to try if you want something right now.

Save up for some other game. Judging from the underwhelming file size and the lack of any interesting/exciting features, I would wait a year to see if they release ultra sword 2/ultra shield 2
Really not worth wasting your money just to play a half-assed game early since the "third" versions are usually the "complete" versions
