Well I just played Crystal and finished it with underlevelled Pokemon (49-55 and beat Red). I got all three starters through cloning trick and that alone made the game more interesting and it showed me how all three compare. Meganium is not at all bad and Feraligatr is really the most useful one. Typhlosion on the other hand... I am not sure how people think it is the best one. It was not bad but after early game I relied on it less and less and Gator alone could solo the rest. Meganium saw a decent amount of use as well believe it or not.

Yeah, before crystal you had to wait until Kanto.

Swinub because fucking GF cannot put a sneasel in the ice cave.
