These games' stories would have been way better if they had kept it simple and just focused on the island trial system and the impact it has on Alola's society instead of taking a hard left to focus on a blondie family soap opera featuring aliens.

I don't think Pokemon's story has ever been above average but holy shit I HATE the fucking story in Gen 7. It's so fucking bad. I simply could not give a care in the world about what was going on, which sucked because the region was actually kind of interesting. Fuck the story.

I like SM's story. It's interesting and filled with well written characters. /vp/ is just bitter that it focuses on other characters.

Legit retarded. Hau is annoying as fuck with a personality no deeper than "ITS MALASADA TIME XD XD XD". The professor isn't much better. Lillie had potential but ended up bland as fuck, and the "Kahunas" were little more than watered down versions of gym leaders with annoying, extended cutscenes (especially the grass trial on the 2nd island). Team Skull was downright painful between the horrendous music and the equally bad dialogue. And the rotomdex..... That piece of shit was the worst of all, and quickly made me despise what has been a favorite since Platinum.

There was absolutely nothing good about the story or characters in S/M.

I really enjoyed watching lusamine become bat shit crazy, didn't enjoy lillie or the handholding throughout the trials.

I think it would have benefited more from way less cutscenes in general but lusamine is my favourite villain so far

It was terribly executed as are all Pokemon stories; poorly paced in and of itself but also against the actual gameplay, and some lingering aspects of the Pokemon narrative as a whole only serve to undermine the increasing depth at which Pokemon seeks to storytell. But thematically it was very cohesive and there were some fascinating ideas at play - in general the theme of invasive species came together very well; from the alolan forms to their logical extreme in literal ultra beasts to the more societal invaders like the aether foundation and kukui's league efforts. Its just a shame that the story never raised the kinds of intriguing questions they posed with these issues and, perhaps, overextended itself with so many different aspects going for that theme - but I'll take them to ponder than not have them at all.
