I get that they add story progression to the games so they aren't just open-ended and barren, but fuck. The only time they were done well was GSC Rocket, because they don't take up 60% of the story and their goals are a lot more realistic than "lets use a legendary god to fuckin kill everyone lole" but even then the gym challenge is just more interesting to me. Doesn't help that their teams are dogshit and rarely ever actually give you new Pokemon to register as seen in the dex.

I'm the opposite honestly
I couldn't give a flying fuck about "walk into building and try to get a badge", since there aren't any stakes or motivation behind it, it's just there because it's the only way the game lets you move forward.
The antagonists are actually something where you feel like you have a purpose for fighting against them, even if their goals are way over the top it's at least a motivation at all.

That's fair, like i said the games would feel aimless without at least something being there to do as you journey along, just wish they would try something different every now and then. I loved Skull and the concept of rabid fans in SWSH sounds great. I guess it's encountering legendaries so early and being dicksucked by all the supporting characters for being the only one capable of handling a threat that bothers me.

That's my big problem with most games too, to be honest. Whenever the evil team arrives with that talk of destroying the world or some other bullshit, I get bored as fuck and ready to leave the fucking game.

Skull is absolutely my favorite Team. This is part of why SM are some of my favorite games in the series. The trials being moderately more fun, combined with Team Skull's different antics from the other Teams, made me feel like the adventure overall had the best energy in the series. Everything just seemed more fun to me.

This is why Team Skull was the only good part of Sun and Moon - people actively thought of them as nothing more than punks who weren't taken seriously. The only one in on working with Lusamine was Guzma, so all the members of the Team were just vagabond kids who needed a place to fit in, and they did so by bullying. They were fun and a great take on the concept. Gen VI tried to do something similar with Team Flare and all the Grunts being idiots, but Team Flare sucked ass.
