The more I see from gen 8 the more I appreciate gen 5 for just having any identity I mean holy fuck I thought gen 6 cucked itself and its own starters for KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO but this was beyond my expectations

But Unova basically was a reboot of Kanto...? In a way, it's kind of an advertisement for it. Lots of Pokemon are just rehashes of Gen 1.

yes, a reboot. a replacement for kanto. not shoving actual KANTOOOOO in our faces 24/7 at the expense of new content.

But that was the whole point of not having any other Pokemon other than Unova Pokemon for BW's story before people complained and they changed it in BW2.

I see this as a good thing, it makes Kanto and Unova complementary. Far better than what other gens do where they just make references and occasionally copy/paste Kanto things like Viridian Forest in Kalos or Nugget Bridge in Alola.

Those mons still have an identity, Machamp doesn't look like Conckledurr, nor does Gigalith to Golem, we are talking about a 156-dex with pokemon that stand on their own and don't need extra gimmicks to be memorable

The point was to have all new Pokémon with no old ones, so many old niches that had previously never been filled by anything but Kanto Pokémon had to be refilled with new Pokémon for the first time.

Fucking THIS. Gen 5 was a bold move and genwunners shat on it so badly they scared GF into submission. People rag on the sprites all the time but if a KANTOOOOO game was released on the gen 5 engine they’d be praised as the best games ever . Genwunners don’t deserve innovation
