>>40387909>Has it ever occurred to you that the reason the Kanto audiences pandered to so much is that they are largely normal functioning adults with paying jobs while most of the fanbases for the following gens are children working on minimum wage, if at all?People who would have been born around when Gen 3 was new are in their early to mid 20s now, most of the kids who were around for and played gen 1 when it was new are in their late 20s to early 30s. A large portion of the audience that would have nostalgia with the games past gen 1 would have had time by now to have some kind of job or career that would get them the money to buy new games. Even if you go to gen 4, the kids that were born when those games were new are just two years away from being 16 now, and most kids with minimum wage jobs don't really have much to spend it on besides maybe a couple bills their parents make them pay and gas for their car, so a game shouldn't be much problem for them.
Kanto is pandered so much because they are easily the most marketable pokemon. Most of the designs aren't complex, so they can appeal to large audiences, they were everywhere for a while because of pokemania, and a decent chunk of gen 1 pokemon are some of the most popular pokemon in the world. Then you take into account how popular the anime for gen 1 was, which would severely increase that marketability because now even the weird pokemon are at least well known enough to be marketable.
Kanto pandering sucks, but it has very little to do with age at best and nothing whatsoever at worst.
