When we subtract the three starters and box legends which are revealed at the start of every gen and are 100% lock ins.

What the hell is wrong with you? Your mind can be changed on launch. They're not throwing everything out pre-launch as they have with the 3DS games. You're not blindly purchasing shit. It's called waiting for it to launch and look at what it comes with instead of blindly buying it Day 1. Don't succumb to the fear of missing out.

That's an entirely different beast altogether. Endgame was built up through years of movies and was a direct follow up to Infinity War, the MCU markets itself. This is just another game in a series of near identical games.

I thought they were the most cringe thing I’ve ever seen and I never used them, albeit I’ll admit the concept looks good on paper, but still it became part of Pokémon battling and they just took it away? That’s fucked up. But bigmaxing as a concept and visually is the stupidest, most lazy thing I could come up with. Even if you don’t like the designs, Megas are a great concept no matter which way you slice it. Pokémon cap off at 3 total forms for a line. Because not only do GameFreak not deserve the success they have gotten, especially considering all the abominable things they have gotten away with, but that's what I enjoy. I find something more enjoyable when I know what I'm getting into and it makes the buildup to said thing so much better when the pre-release is so lively and full of excitement compared to something lackluster that will only turn me off.

Cause Capcom actually showed enough of a change in the fanbase that people were okay with monsters being removed. There was a huge graphical update, a complete change to how the world works and big changes to a lot of systems. They justified the scaling down of the roster, Pokemon hasn't done that yet with N64 trees.

They could've explained how they improved the game balance, shown off examples of their great new animations, explain how dynamax works mechanically and why it's better than megas and z-moves, and shown the technical superiority of their game compared to other Switch games. Did you forget when the other side moved the goalpost as well and said it'd just be more 2-mon Gym Leaders and more grinding/more of the same? You can't win either way.

The thing is that reaction would only propagate BECAUSE they held it off for so long. If they announced it seeded through the usual news cycle, people would shit on them all the same because they wouldn't come as surprises/huge changes from what was previously known.

The reason they don't is that maybe we on /vp/ care about that technical/functional detail, but it'd make for poor/boring marketing to the many, many casual players. Going by the pokedex, there are only 50 new Pokemon not counting the Galarian variants or Gigamax formes. Take it with a grain of salt since this could just be limited in the pre-release version but I highly doubt it.

Endgame was the sequel to Infinity War, which already set the stage for roughly what you could expect from Endgame. That isn't even touching on the fact that Infinity War and Endgame, together, were the grand finale to over a decade's worth of movies which introduced character arcs that would presumably be touched on or concluded at some point in the duology.

Meanwhile, all we know about SwSh is that a bunch of content was cut, and by all appearances, GF used the time and resources they freed up to include a bunch of retarded gimmicks like curry and a shittier version of the overworld from Ocarina of Time. If that's all the information we have access to, then yeah, the marketing has been really shitty.
