I wouldn't mind Kanto getting the spotlight if they focused on the Kanto mons that have actually been neglected, instead of Pikachu, Eevee and Charizard ad nauseam.

People need to understand things like Charizard, Pikachu, Eevee are like Ryu, Ken, Chun-li.
When those fighters are confirmed in every SF, the fanbase don't get annoyed. When they get new skins in every batch, the fanbase don't get annoyed. The SF fans understand those are the main characters. With Pokémon is similar, we just need to accept that.

The problem is that GF picked up on that way too late, and now it just comes off as pandering. Before gen 6, Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee, would just stand on their own merits and were just as popular.
