>>40398591Honestly at first I was a little put off, just like everyone else. I think my immediate twitter comment was, "oh fuck what about competitive."
Within a day I remebered that A.) Competative is wack anyways, has been since Gen 6 introduced Megas and B.) This change does very little to effect me.
I always play with new Pokemon. I didn't as a kid, and that stagnated the series for me. I fell off the wagon after Gen 3 until 5 came out because I just got so bored. I still played 4, but I remember slogging through it because >muh faves weren't in it. And then Gen 5 gave me no goddamn choice. And I fucking loved it. I was forced to use new shit, and made all new bros! I played all 4 games in that gen, each with a totally different team I had never used before. I even went back and replayed 3 and 4, which I had previously dragged my feet all the way through and did the same thing and had much more fun. It made battles more unpredictable and then more satisfying when they were won, it made the journey more fun to treat it as a new adventure rather than a retread.
I have all my old mons, every one of them. They're on my Sun cartridge. But all I've ever done is look at them, they don't get used (except to breed). The dex cut means I can't carry them over to the next gen, but wtf was I gonna do with them anyways? Look at them more? Clutter up more boxes each gen with them?
I understand missing a fav, I really do. But I don't think it's worth missing out on the fun of Pokemon as it moves forward. Especially not when they churn out remakes and new gens like hotcakes and I'm guaranteed to see favs again soon anyways.
