Some people like actively creating, not passively consuming. It's impossible not to consume some of the kind you create, but there's no way a creator gets obsessed over other creators.

I guess maybe that's why Satoshi Tajiri is nowhere to be seen. He, Sugimori, and Morimoto always seemed genuinely into video games in general, but Masuda always seemed like he was more "along for the ride" as music producer. I don't know about Ohmori though.

Tajiri is CEO and "executive producer" in name only. He hasn't worked on anything at GameFreak in decades now, since R/S era. He pretty much is just there to say "okay" when a game is finished, and even then he probably wouldn't be able to override decisions made by Masuda and Ishihara (executive producers don't have much power over a final product).

As for what happened to him, he's really private and hasn't made a public appearance in years, has no social media accounts, hasn't done interviews in years etc. The most recent piece of media involving him was a manga made about his life ("ポケモンをつくった男田尻智") but I've not been able to find scans of it, so I've no idea if it covers what he does now in his life.

I do wonder what his true opinion of what the franchise has become is.
