I bet that Camerupt is a piece of piss later. So much Water in Hoenn. It's even worse in Sapphire and AS where you have Kyogre, Ludicolo in place of Shiftry, and Team Aqua. Then in Emerald you have a Water type champion. It's nuts.

Well, they don't really have a move that'll threaten his Pokemon too hard, plus not much in the way of recovery besides Giga Drain, plus his Lucario is a big problem
A perfect mon would be one that has Flying or Psychic STAB, is not weak to Fight, Rock or Dark (preferrably resisting at least Fighting) and either has a super effective move for Lucario or is able to take a punch from it for the 2ko

That would be two options, yes, I had my Metagross in the Black 2 leg that worked wonders as they had STAB Zen Headbutt and also Brick Break for Lucario, I'm sure there's still something I can use that'll be helpful, in a pinch I'll just use Beeteedubs the Elgyem, but there's still plenty of time before the league

Not sure how far ahead you recorded, but in the Castelia Sewers, there's an outside area with a patch of grass. If you lead with a Pokemon that's level 18 (in the light grass) or 19 (in the dark grass), you can get a guaranteed Eevee.

Basically Gliscor. That's it. Does the job beautifully though, I had the good fortune to get an Impish Gligar on Route 11 one time. He was insanely good even before he evolved, holding the Eviolite for dear life.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that you need a repel.
Repel only repels Pokemon that are lower level than you, and Eevee is the highest level Pokemon in that area.

So, I read the apocalocke thing in the earlier thread, and I ended up deciding to make my own little role system(based on natures).

You can explore the Wild Area before the first gym, but if you catch the attention of the wrong wandering pokemon it can be very high level. It'll undoubtedly be difficult to run away in battle due to its higher speed, and impossible to fight.

Water does not resist Ground. This makes more sense than you might initially think if you see silted waterways and beach construction as balancing out coastline and riverbed erosion.

Your Oshawott will perform real nicely once it becomes Dewott. Razor Shell/Rock Smash/Focus Energy/Filler is a potent combination in the early game.

Zac Posen can potentially become Leavanny as soon as Level 21. This enables it to be fully evolved in time for Burgh. You may need to run around many thousands of steps offscreen once it turns into Swadloon to achieve this effect, though.

Lassie evolves at 16. Herdier is a solid answer to Roxie, especially if it's the intimidate variant.

Threads are slower I'd wager due to the SwSh hype cycle. Which is totally fucked IMO, given my stance on the new games.

My take is mixed, but far less than yours. 80-20 in favor of "Fuck Game Freak".

Why?

NO:
-Dex cull, depending on how GF goes about it, could either severely hamper the meta, or make it healthy as it's been in a long time
-Dex cull seems strategically timed to squeeze TPCi as much money out of Pokémon Home as possible.
-Put a Brit in charge of the art and as a consultant on some fluff to flesh out Galar. They wasted an opportunity to have Turner direct the concept of how Galar was built, regardless of your feelings on the man. Galar could have felt unique in its own special way, instead of just "what aspects of a foreign culture and geography do we Japanese fetishize?"
-Holy shit the Gym Leagues piss me off. We could have packed a lot of unique map challenges and other associated gameplay the Gyms permit into SwSh, even more Gym stuff than HGSS, but holy shit they wasted it. I've also been getting more into sports these last few years and to me they basically went "haha please understand we made something that looks like a pro sports association but did nothing to make it feel like a realistic structure in which athletes can make a living."
-I'm not really feeling the new 'mons. I like Cramorant, Sobble, Rolycoly, and Giga-Butters, but not many others.
-Holy shit their excuses are disgusting. "We worked on revamping the models, NPC faces, and move animations", but don't have much to show for it.
-Curry? Fucking Curry? Just bring back Poffins, you'll remake DPP soon anyway.
-Why give Leon a Charizard, instead of a strong Galar Pokémon? Other than Giga, It's not like they're gonna give it anything this Generation besides perhaps a Legendary's signature move via event. They took away its two Megas, to boot. Diantha, much to my chagrin back then, also used an oldmon but at least Gardevoir got a massive movepool expansion, a new Mega, and a new secondary typing.
-I'm not feeling great about possible postgame options.

I defeated Gardenia with little difficulty, setting up Fury Cutters with HeyJude II on Turtwig to the point where it got Roserade to the red zone with a single hit, only for the chain to end to paralysis from Stun Spore. I then switched in to Fool II, who finished off Roserade and Cherrim with Ember. I also forgot to mention last update that somewhere down the line, I'm going to add Mileena to my team, as it was blessed with a Jolly nature, the Simple ability, and good IVs. I used the Pokewalker during my HeartGold and SoulSilver legs, the way I did it that made the most sense to me was that I used an AR code to unlock all the routes (I believe there's a little over 20 of them total) and then used a random number generator to pick 5 routes and then I was allowed one mon from each of them. Also put in the clause that I couldn't use a Pokewalker mon if it was higher level than the next leader's ace, so if I got a level 15 mon at the start I would have to wait till after Falkner and so on

The E4 itself went as smoothly as I envision it could in Challenge mode, some bumps here and there, but everyone got soloed without losing a mon, Lucia taking care of Grimsley and Caitlin, Chie taking care of Shauntal and Beeteedubs pulling in the clutch against Marshal
Iris is where things got hairy; I sent out Lucia against her Hydreigon, I had let her borrow the Leftovers and my plan was to tank Surf from Hydreigon to set up Quiver Dance, which worked great! She was at +2 and about 70% HP thanks to Leftovers, Signal Beam'd the Hydreigon thinking I might just have this one in the bag
She sends out Aggron, I'm thinking that Flamethrower might not do quite enough so I chance the Fire Blast...and miss. Aggron hits with Head Smash and suddenly we have a battle on our hands
I send out Chie to revenge with a Brick Break, it's enough to kill and she sends out Druddigon. Ice Punch barely doesn't kill it and it hits with a Life Orb boosted Outrage, taking out about 60% of our HP, but a second Ice Punch takes it out. Next is Lapras, a quick Brick Break and it's out, and then it's Haxorus. I go for the Ice Punch knowing it won't be enough, but I know that switching could cost me heavily, and Haxorus ends up killing Chie with Outrage
Next up is booty.exe, who thankfully is able to outspeed and kill both Haxorus and Archeops giving us the win

Overall, not the cleanest league run, but hey, at least we made it. Now it's finally, FINALLY, on to a new generation

There's barely anything else lategame. Nearly every trainer on the last chunk of routes has a Water type. That's the real issue, as Camerupt is really solid until then. Also makes it a bit shit against Glacia, especially as Fire/Ground doesn't even resist Ice. Alright against Steven though.

The nuzlocke forums focus more on the fanfiction than the gameplay which turns me off a lot. Especially when you just want to see someone do a comfy screenshot run. First gym of Gen 6 down! Quacklin' reeled it in thanks to their level advantage, thankfully the level at which Pokemon disobey you is much higher in these games (20 with no badges, 30 with just one)
Also Quacklin' was gotten as I caught a Bunnelby at Route 22, which not only was Modest but had Cheek Pouch, so it was COMPLETELY useless, prompting the trade

Also, to whoever is responsible for the nuzlocke template, you've mixed up the colors for X and Y, I had to manually change to X's color for the background, but the champ background will still be wrong

Afterwards the townspeople were much more cooperative, albeit now absolutely terrified of anyone under four feet tall. We made a detour before moving to secure Twist Mountain and found ourselves a very nice addition to the team.

Duskull fell easily to Fool II, but I overestimated HeyJude II's attacking power. I managed to get Mismagius down to red, but that wasn't enough, as it killed HeyJude II with Shadow Ball. Honestly it's hard to say, I think ORAS is gonna be fine (unless I'm unlucky), but X&Y has a lot of curveballs it can throw at you, and if you're not expecting them or if you're somehow unprepared for that specific one, it can cost you pretty quickly. I'm also not using the Exp Share or megas (outside of battles where the opponent also has a mega) on top of not using items in battle and playing on Set, so a lot can go wrong at any given time

Motherfucker wasn't ready to die, I guess. He got a flame body burn on the single X-Scissor he switched into. The burn let me win without having to sacrifice anyone other than Sigilyph.

Sooo... Last time I played this, I basically lost 5 out of 6 of my team to a random trainer. The only survivor was Alolan Raichu. I basically quit right there because my only chances [imo] against both the upcoming mimikyu fight and the later necrozma fight died in that battle.

Fastforward to now. I was considering picking it back up again. Technically I didn't wipe, and while I thought I had no chance in hell of getting very far, I could try to rebuild and see where things went.

And.. turns out I forgot to save when I quit. I'm a route or two behind the trainer I nearly wiped to, but everything else is about the same as it was before I quit. Entire team is alive

I'm heavily considering just.. counting this as a blessing, and letting it go where it will? Sorta like a fresh start without starting entirely over again. Kinda unsure on it though.

Personally I only list those that I managed to keep alive till the very end, I'm very strict in the sense that I don't believe I should be rewarded for my incompetence, if I let some of my precious mons die then that's something I have to live with

As for GSC/HGSS, I feel like Kanto makes up such a significant portion of the game that it's hard to think of Lance as nothing more than the haof-way point. Having Red as the last fight tho is absolutely fucking brutal tho, unless you have a bulky Ground type that can set up on his Pikachu you're more or less fucked unless you grind for literal days

So out of curiosity I put everything into a calculator and found out that the reason he fought so hard was that he has absolute freakshow IVs for a mon not bred in captivity. Even in the worst possible spread with the information I have not a single one of his stats has an IV under 21, and in the best case not a single one under 24. He also has definite 31 in Special Defense and probable 31 or 30 in Speed.

I don't remember what types the last gym leader and the elite four have but if none of them are serious hard counters to Dragons I think this crusade is practically won. And I'm totally keeping this freak of nature for any comfy runs I do in the future.

Started a nuzlocke of X last night. General rules only since it's my first Nuzlocke ever.
Seems pretty manageable so far. Just beat the first gym and caught a flabebe on route 4. Missed out on catching an azuril on route 3 because I was mashing attack like a dumbass, but other than that everything's going well. Shared EXP disabled.

Fantina was an absolutely terrifying fight, given Mismagius could hit 4/6 members of my team for SE damage. Charap eventually managed to land a Sing and Halberd came in to finish her off with a crit Crunch.

Unsurprisingly, Byron was a complete wash.

Even with Flamethrower, Javelin was really underwhelming so I've decided to try out Aipom. Maybe I'll try Ponyta out again at a later point when it gets a spicier moveset.

Super Training. I allowed Ducklin' to be Super Trained considering he doesn't have a Base Stat above 70, and after being fully trained I took advantage of the situation and got the early Shiny Stone, waited for Astrid to hit level 25 to get Magical Leaf and evolved her then (next useful move would be Moonblast at 48 and you can Heart Scale for that)

Dunno if anyone remembers but I was doing a randomized Emerald run a few months ago. Anyway I stopped because life, but yesterday I randomly remembered I still had this save file on my phone aos there we go. Current progress, just about ready to enter Elite 4. I'm feeling confident, randomized runs tend to get easier by tht end since you're running fully evolved pokémon but the Champion still might end up with a Charmander or other weak shit and I think I have a solid team. On the other hand, keeping careful, after all I was blazing through the Victory Road before a random Ace Trainer pulls a goddamn Groudon that sweeped half of my team

Not at all. Some routes offer similar things, like Tentacool and Magikarp on numerous routes, so sometimes it is necessary to box the less than ideal or mons where you already have type coverage. If you wipe at certain gyms or E4, you always have them as a backup.

After Brycen was taken down we got reports of worshipers of that ridiculous little edgelord false emperor breaking into an old tower consumed with superstition and attempting to secure a superweapon of some sort. I assisted local forces in securing the site. And by "securing the site" I mean that I let Abaddon butcher everyone inside. While I failed to prevent the weapon from being stolen there was a silver lining in that the rampage up the tower was really entertaining.

Meanwhile I lucked out on the Route 8 capture with a shelmet so I now have have two more excellent mons with excellent natures. For such an abysmal start this Crusade is looking more and more like it's going to steamroll the endgame. Hopefully. If I don't fuck it up.

The people have spoken, I gave Javelin a second chance and he's performed admirably. Shame that Ponyta is pretty much a bag of dicks until it evolves.

Chakram and Maul have been one-shotting everything in their path, even Palkia fell to a single crit Earthquake. Rapier and Halberd are surprisingly great once they get thier respective weather set up and even Charap has pulled his weight more than I expected him to.

Feeling pretty confident about my chances at the league but surviving without any casualties will be a whole different story.

Oh boy. I accidentally switched in to Javelin, who takes a Dragon Rush to the face and falls. I then sent out Halberd, stupidly thinking I could outspeed but Halberd goes down. Maul then comes in and eats a Giga Impact, in turn destroying Garchomp with Ice Fang.

Easy money. One Earthquake does the job.

Sucks that I ended up losing Halberd and Javelin by failures on my part, but a win is a win. Maul is the definite MVP of this run, he just refused to die and hit back with one hell of a punch.

Not much to say about my Platinum run so far, except for how happy I am that Betelgeuse evolved into the right type of cocoon for me to use.

Voltage Badge get, but at a heavy cost
Lead with Rococo thinking he might have what it takes to solo the leader (he had Dig which was boosted by a Soft Sand), unfortunately he died from my own miscalculation, Magneton's Sturdy had actived once and Clemont had used a Hyper Potion, figuring he wouldn't use a second once I went for Dig to waste a turn on the Electric Terrain he had set up previously. Unfortunately, use another Hyper Potion was just what he did, meaning that Sturdy was reactivated, Rococo failed the kill and Magneton killed him with an Electric Terrain boosted Thunderbolt
Rest of the battle went smoothly, Quacklin' cleaned up the rest of the mons with Return

Seconds after losing yet another Psyduck (these things are cursed), I stumbled upon a shiny Machop which has been tearing shit up.

The crusade arrived at the final non-compliant city seeking intel on a bigger superweapon to counter the false emperor's superweapon in true Warhammer style, and found a city absolutely rife with turbo heresy. Xeno tech everywhere, absolutely disgusting.

Abaddon did what Abaddon does best and tore apart every single heretic in the dragon gym with great fury. He also OHKO'd every last one of Drayden's mons with Fang boosted Dragon Claw finishing it off with a crit on Haxorus who only got off a single Dragon Dance before it's demise. Remembrancers were even kind enough to produce a reenactment of the fight.

Currently suffering from a bench overflowing with Pokemon I'd want to use, especially considering I've got some great potential encounters and the Great Marsh coming up.

Rigel managed to set up 6 Curses on Duskull and sweep Fantina with Bite.

Procyon takes out Maylene's Meditite and Machoke, dodging one Rock Tomb and tanking another. Pollux comes in to deal with Lucario as it's hilariously untouchable in this fight.

I was pretty gutted to have lost my first shiny of the run in Polaris, but getting a male Ralts for my Route 208 encounter softened the blow a bit. Would loved to have used Scizor in this run but I'm pretty sure I can't get the Metal Coat without the National Dex, so Scyther is riding the pine for now.

Got wayyy to overconfident with my level 8 Buizel versus a level 15 Geodude. Paid for it dearly.

I decided to box Nemea since Luxio is just not good. I've used it in all of my Sinnoh runs up till now and I'm not impressed. Especially in D/P. It's only utility is a check against Gyarados.

Anyone else find it more effective to buy Wide Lenses and Zoom Lenses with your casino money in Gen 4 rather than bother to grind for Ice Beam, Flamethrower and Thunderbolt? You get access to Blizzard, Thunder and Fire Blast in the same town, all of which get a lot of benefit out of the accuracy items(Fire Blast on a Slow mon with Zoom Lens actually hits 100% accuracy).
I think I'll probably settle for a few lenses and a Swords Dance TM. Maybe I'll grind for the 10000 Coin TMs for the league, but eh.

Went on to route 5 and tragedy struck. When fighting my first encounter on the route, a Doduo, Carmen was struck with a crit peck that KO'd her. I caught the Doduo and vowed to never use him. Jolteon is Platinum only and Rotom I believe is postgame only in DP, so only Electric type outside Luxray is Pachirisu, you're probably better off just slapping Thunderbolt on a decent special attacker and calling it a day

Hmm, changing nicknames. Interesting, I hadn't thought much about that. On the one hand, I feel like it sorta gets in the way of getting attached to specific mons, but on the other hand, sometimes you catch a mon, give it a shit name because you assume you'll never use it, and then you end up requiring it. Luxray has 95 SpA(higher than that of Raichu). It is a mixed attacker more than anything in-game. You should not be using Spark as your main Electric STAB.
And no, Jolteon is not better than Luxray in-game even outside the whole lack of a STAB(which is barely a thing anyway, you can just get Thunder in Veilstone and grab a Wide Lens).
Luxray has a fairly powerful Thunder and Thunderbolt(though weaker than Jolteon's, obviously) that will do the job you need it for, and it also has a powerful Return and Crunch for coverage. It has good-ish bulk, and it combines Intimidate(an excellent ability) with Light Screen access to be a very simple but excellent mon that is both a good damage dealer and team support.
In my opinion, it is easily one of the best mons for Nuzlockes in Sinnoh assuming you get Intimidate and not Rivalry. IntimidateScreen is fantastic .
Getting one with a speed-nerfing nature is actually fairly nice because you can abuse Zoom Lens for 90 Accuracy Thunders instead of Wide Lens 80 Accuracy Thunder.

I don't really agree.
-Thunder(grab either Wide or Zoom Lens)
-Crunch
-Return(or Strength if you want Return on someone else)
-Light Screen
Except for Crunch, you can have this whole moveset done before you even face Maylene, and it is good enough to last you the whole game from that point on.
If anything, Luxray is so simple to build and so unchanging throughout the game that he's actually fairly boring.
The most variation you get is putting Thunderbolt on there instead if you feel like no other mon wants it, so you can run another item than the Lenses.

Finally settled on a team after plenty of flip flopping. Unfortunatley Porygon 2 and all of the interesting Bug types I managed to pull from Honey Trees. Even if I lose a member soon I'd struggle to choose someone from the box to replace them.

Swtiching out Rotom forms to suit the situation has been fantastic so far; I've been switching it before every gym to this point and it always seems to defeat a mon or two.

Forgot just how much of an improvement Platinum was on Diamond and Pearl, not only does the game seem faster but there's so, so much more variety in both wild mons and trainers teams.

Although he's not quite close to being the MVP of the run so far (that'd be Pollux by a mile), Luyten has been ridiculously fun to use. He seems to eat everything thrown his way (even a few 4x effective moves) and 90% accuracy Thunder just fries shit.

Good news is I just caught a motherfucking shiny furfrou while I was grinding Rena up to level 16.
