the main types of pokemon players are 1. casuals and who play until the credits, maybe do some of the post-game, then move on and 2. competitive players who just use the best pokemon available in the game

the dex cut affects neither of these groups. The autists who care about using the same Pokemon every game are in the minority.

competitive autists are no better. they pushed the narrative that any pokemon that isn't top-tier is a worthless shitmon, making it even easier for game freak to cut the dex. just like with smash players, nobody is impressed that you're good at a "competitive" children's game.

If that was the reason then Game Freak would make the single player campaign much longer with ton of post game content instead of removing stuff like the Battle Frontier in ORAS.

The cuts could affect the competitive players if it ends up overcentralizing a particular Pokemon. There's not enough information to know that yet, but it doesn't seem like Game Freak is doing much for balance besides adding some abilities to counter popular abilities such as with Corviknight's hidden ability and Intimidate.

Casual players male up the vast majority of people who play games that aren't battle royal or MMORPG, neither of which Pokemon is. So why wouldn't they pander to the majority, and thusly the place where most of their money comes from?
